Nut Twists
Tidbits... My grandmother and also my mother never had the convenience of speedy online searches for recipes. However their system was very efficient and I am now the custodian of many vintage recipes that were written by hand on recipe cards and stored in little tin boxes. For me they are surely family treasures.. I found this recipe and it was delicious and easy. The levitation is short so they were ready in less than an hour.
Ingredients
- Butter - 1/2 cup
- Sugar - 3 Tbsp.
- Salt - 1 tsp.
- Vanilla - 1 tsp. liquid or 1 packet dry
- Scalded Milk - 1/4 cup
- Dry yeast - 2 Packets
- Warm Water - 1/4 cup
- Flour - 3 cups
- Eggs - 3
- Rolling Mixture
- Chopped walnuts - 3/4 cup
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Cinnamon - 2 Tbsp.
- Orange Marmalade Glaze - 2 Tbsp. + 1 Tbsp. water
Instructions
- Combine butter, sugar, salt, vanilla and scalded milk. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to butter mix.
- Blend in 1 1/2 cup flour. Cover and rest 15 minutes
- Add eggs 1 at a time. Beating after each one. Blend in remaining 1 1l2 cups flour and mix well. Dough will be soft and a bit sticky. Let rise 12 hour in a warm spot.
- Roll into 30 g balls, extend to about and 8 inch rope and flatten pressing into nut mixture. Twish and make a figure 8 and place on bu parchment lined, or buttered baking sheet. Let rise for 5 minutes then bake in preheated 375˚F oven for 12-15 minutes.
- Remove from oven and brush with orange glaze or powdered sugar.
