Wine Poached Pears
Tidbits... Serve these pears with vanilla pastry cream or ice cream.
Ingredients
- Pears - 4 firm, ripe
- Red wine - 2 cups
- Butter - 2 T
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Bay leaves - 4
Instructions
- Peel, cut in half and core pears, leave stem attached to one half.
- Melt butter in sauté pan and arrange pears in a single layer, on the flat side. Brown the pears on both sides, without letting the butter get too dark. Sprinkle sugar over pears, add bay leaves and red wine.
- Cook the pears loosely covered until they are tender.
- Remove from heat and remove pears from pan. Reduce wine sauce until it is like dense syrup.
- Drizzle wine sauce over pears.
